Individual Child Psychotherapy
Children at all stages of development sometimes need support. We have developed separate courses of treatment and accompanying curricula for three distinct age groups. Each of these treatments is a short-term model with a strong parental component.
Feelings Play School
Ages 2-4.
Feelings Play School is an 8 week psychotherapy treatment for children under the age of 4. Pre-school and nursery school-age children exist within the relationships with their parents. When they are struggling, the treatment and emotional growth should also be found within the context of this relationship. Therefore, in Feelings Play School, a parent will accompany the child in all therapeutic play therapy sessions with the therapist. The treatment also includes parental guidance sessions without the child present to gain support and information about how to approach their child’s difficulties.
Feelings School
Ages 5-12.
Feelings School is a 8-12 week individual child psychotherapy that is tailored to the child’s specific needs. The Feelings School therapist will guide the child through a series of evidence-informed therapeutic tasks to improve emotional literacy, frustration tolerance, anxiety management, social skills, and inter-personal communication. Using games, arts and crafts, music and play, Feelings School therapists make the work fun! Parents will also participate in 4 parental guidance sessions to gain support and information about how to approach their child’s difficulties.
FS Teen
Ages 13-18.
FS Teen is an 8 week individual psychotherapy program for teens. It is based in the Feelings School curriculum but is modified to meet the developmental needs of adolescents. Through the relationship with their therapist and less direct parent involvement, teens will learn the skills they need to navigate the emotional ups and downs of peer relationships, social media, academic pressure, highly-scheduled lives and family dynamics.
At the end of any of these treatments, the clinician and the families together may decide that on-going support is needed. In these cases, we provide longer term psychotherapy.
